What to know: The 38-match winning streak in MIVA play for No. 4/4 Ohio State will be put to the test. Ohio State will attempt to expand both its first-place lead in the conference and its historic winning streak that dates back to 2016 as it travels to No. 9/8 Lewis. The Buckeyes enter their first conference road match of the season having swept their last three matches and have at least .300 attack percentage three of their four MIVA matches. In addition, first-year starting setter Sanil Thomas is second in the nation with a 10.72 assists per game average and has guided the Buckeyes offense to the nation’s fifth-best attack percentage at .329. All-American outside attacker Nicolas Szerszen is among the nation’s leaders with a 3.46 kills per game average, including having a combined 49 kills in the Buckeyes three matches this season against top-10 ranked teams. Szerszen did not play in Ohio State’s conference sweeps against Lindenwood on Thursday and Quincy on Sunday. The match between Ohio State and Lewis also will feature two of the top freshmen in the nation so far this season. Ohio State opposite Jake Hanes is fourth in the nation averaging 3.93 kills per game. Hans has double-digit kills in nine matches and had a match-high 16 kills while hitting .429 in a sweep against Penn State in January — the Buckeyes’ last match against a top-10 ranked team. Lewis middle attacker Tyler Mitchem is in the nation’s top six with both a 1.24 blocks per game average and a .463 attack percentage. In addition, Mitchem had a season-high eight blocks in a three-game road loss against Ball State on Friday. That loss ended the Flyers’ eight-match winning streak and was the third time in the last 10 matches that Lewis hit less than .300. Along with Mitchem, All-American outside attacker Ryan Coenen is among the MIVA leaders with a 3.39 kills per game. Coenen also had a match-high 22 kills on a .500 attack percentage in a five-game loss to Ohio State last season. This near upset also was last time the Flyers played host to the Buckeyes.
