Video: UCLA serving performance leads to sweep of King

No. 4 UCLA had 13 aces as it swept the defending co-ConfCarolinas regular season champions King 25-17, 25-16, 25-11 in a non-conference match on Friday in Los Angeles.

Preseason All-American setter Micah Ma’a led all players with 4 aces, and middle attacker Daenan Gyimah contributed three aces. Ma’a and Gyimah were two of the six Bruins to have at least one ace and helped the team end the match with 11 more aces than the Tornado (0-1, 0-0 ConfCarolinas).

UCLA (2-0, 0-0 MPSF) in the victory also committed the same amount of service errors as aces.

Along with his performance from the service line, Ma’a guided the UCLA offense to out-hit King .403 to .103. The Bruins held the Tornado to a negative-.115 attack percentage in the final game to compete the sweep.

Outside attacker JT Hatch finished with a match-high eight kills and zero attack errors on a .571 attack percentage, while Preseason All-American outside attacker Jake Arnitz added eight kills. Hatch also had a match-high 10 digs against King.

Outside attacker Jeff Sprayberry, the 2017 ConfCarolinas Player of the Year, led King with eight kills.
