Lewis unanimous top pick in new DII coaches poll

Fresh off two sweeps last week to even their 2018 record to 3-3, the Lewis Flyers took all of the first-places votes in the Off the Block/Springbak Division II Coaches Poll. The Flyers welcome a pair of nationally ranked Division I teams this week to Romeoville – CSUN on Thursday and UC Santa Barbara on Saturday.

UCSD split last week, as they were swept at home by the UCLA Bruins, and defeated fellow DII foe Concordia-Irvine in four sets. The Tritons visit the Valley of the Sun this weekend, as they play at Grand Canyon on Friday, and face off against NAIA member, Ottawa (AZ), on Saturday.

The closest battle in the poll was for the No. 3 ranking as Concordia-Irvine nudged out McKendree. CUI pulled off the upset with victory against previously undated CSUN during the weekend. The Eagles travel next door to face UC Irvine on Wednesday.

McKendree is all alone in first place in the MIVA, as it hold a 1-0 record in conference play after its win over Lindenwood on Thursday. The Bearcats will take off a couple of weeks before they host Grand Canyon on Feb. 3.

Rounding out the top five is Lindenwood, which split its first two MIVA matches of the season (swept by McKendree and defeated Quincy in four.) This weekend, the Lions head to EIVA territory and take on NJIT on Thursday and Sacred Heart on Friday.

Others receiving votes were Barton and EIVA-leading Charleston.
