BYU, Hawai’i in tight race for nation’s top home attendance

Add the battle for best home attendance among all the other close races right now between No. 3/3 BYU and No. 4/4 Hawai’i.

BYU and Hawai’i are the only teams in the nation with more than a 3,000 home attendance average and are within a 100-person average of each other, according to recent statistics compiled by the NCAA.

The Cougars are averaging nation-best 3,243 people per home match, while the Rainbow Warriors have a 3,187 home attendance average. No other NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball team has more than a 1,250 home attendance average.

Both BYU and Hawai’i are in the top three of the MPSF standings with about one month remaining in the regular season. In addition, the Cougars and Rainbow Warriors are among the few teams still in serious contention for a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, according to the latest Off the Block bracketology.

Along with these two schools, Ball State, Grand Canyon and Ohio State round-out the top five of the best attendance rankings.

The top nine teams in attendance are all from the MPSF and MIVA.

No. 15 Penn State leads the EIVA and is 10th overall with a 655 home attendance average. Mount Olive also leads all Conference Carolinas schools averaging a 273 home attendance.
