What to know: The only remaining undefeated MPSF team will face its biggest challenge so far in its first road match of the season. No. 5/4 Hawai’i after opening the season with five consecutive wins for the program’s first time since 2003 will travel to play No. 4/5 Long Beach State for its conference opener. Hawai’i throughout its winning streak had one match against a nationally ranked team — a four-game victory versus No. 13 Ball State. Opposite Stijn van Tilburg leads the Rainbow Warriors and is third in the MPSF with a 4.43 kills per game average, including having a match-high 17 kills in a sweep against Grand Canyon on Friday. Long Beach State following a conference-opening loss to USC rebounded to beat Cal Baptist in four games on Friday. All-American outside attacker TJ DeFalco had a team-high 12 kills on a .579 attack percentage in the victory. DeFalco is in the conference’s top 10 with a 3.65 kills per game average.Along with DeFalco, All-American setter Josh Tuaniga has a conference-best 11.36 assists per game average and has guided the 49ers offense to a .348 attack percentage. Despite sweeping the season series on the road last year, the 49ers are 2-4 in home matches against the Rainbow Warriors during this decade.
