What to know: Canadian outside attacker Eli Risso following the team’s quarterfinal victory on Friday was not shy about admitting Canada has been wanting to play the United States since even before the tournament started. The team got its wish — along with a big challenge. The undefeated United States and Canada will meet in the NORCECA semifinals with the winner advancing to the finals of the international tournament. The United States leads the tournament with a 63.73 percent offensive efficiency — more than 10 percentage points better than Canada. Ohio State outside attacker Reese Devilbiss coming off the bench in both group-play matches led the United States with a combined 11 kills. Devilbiss also had five the United States’ 11 aces in its group-play finale sweep against St. Vincent on Thursday. Along with the high school All-American Devilbiss, the U.S. roster roster includes two Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Freshmen All-American Team selections — Long Beach State opposite Kyle Ensing and Long Beach State setter Josh Tuaniga. The United States did not allow an opponent to score more than 16 points in a game during the group-play stage. With its two group-play sweeps, the United States won the Group A and earned a bye to the semifinals. Canada finished in second place in Group B and swept St. Vincent in the quarterfinals to reach the semifinals. Libero Jordan Pereira leads all players at the tournament with 25 digs, including having a match-high 10 digs in the quarterfinals. Canadian outside attacker Erick Loeppky is also among the tournament leaders with 29 kills and a 58 percent offensive efficiency. This will be the second consecutive U21 NORCECA Continental Championship that the United States and Canada have met in the semifinals. The United States lost to Canada in the 2014 semifinals and finished the tournament with the bronze medal. The winner of this semifinal match will advance to play Cuba or Guatemala in the finals on Sunday.
