Stanford setter Shaw named 2016 MPSF Player of Year

Stanford setter James Shaw one year after being sidelined with an injury achieved a feat not accomplished by a setter in almost a decade.

The MPSF announced Thursday that Shaw was selected as the 2016 MPSF Player of the Year — becoming the first setter to earn the award since 2007.

Shaw ended the regular season guiding the Stanford offense to the third best attack percentage in the nation at .334. In addition, the senior is among the national leaders with a 10.06 assists per game average and added 32 aces to help No. 4/4 Stanford earn the No. 4 seed for the upcoming MPSF Tournament.

Long Beach State outside attacker TJ DeFalco also was named the 2016 MPSF Freshman of the Year.
