Stanford remains ahead of LBSU in new RPI

Stanford at least was able to salvage a RPI ranking ahead of Long Beach State to close out the regular season.

The Cardinal following two losses last week dropped two spots to No. 4 but still remained a spot above the 49ers in the new RPI rankings released Monday.

Both Stanford and Long Beach State enter the postseason among the teams in contention for the final at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, according to the latest Off the Block bracketology.

The RPI is one of several pieces of criteria the selection committee uses to determine the NCAA Tournament field. A team’s RPI ranking is determined by a mathematical formula that includes a team’s winning percentage, its opponents’ winning percentage and its opponents’ strength of schedule.

Along with Stanford and Long Beach State, BYU remained at No. 1 in the RPI for the second consecutive week. Ohio State and UCLA also round-out the top five of the rankings this week.

The RPI rankings will continue to updated throughout the postseason until Selection Sunday.
