BYU tops home attendance rankings midway through season

A nation-best home crowd has been in attendance to witness No. 2/2 BYU’s school-record winning streak.

BYU midway through the season leads all college men’s volleyball teams in the nation with a 4,137 home attendance average.


The Cougars are 7-1 at home this season and have swept 11 consecutive matches to set a school record with a 33-game winning streak. The team also has highest single-match attendance this season as 5,637 people attended its home opener against Loyola.

BYU edged Hawai’i for the top spot in the national home attendance rankings by about 600 more people per home match. However, the Cougars and Rainbow Warriors were the only schools with more than a 1,250 home attendance average.

MPSF teams have the seven highest attendance averages this season. In addition, UC Irvine, Long Beach State and Pepperdine join BYU and Hawai’i to round-out the top five.

Ball State leads the MIVA and all non-West Coast schools with a 722 home attendance average. 

Penn State has an EIVA-best 640 attendance average, while Belmont Abbey leads the Conference Carolinas averaging a 214 home attendance.

Of the 43 NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball teams, 19 teams are on pace to exceed their home attendance average from last season.

BYU is experiencing the biggest jump in attendance with about 700 more people at home matches this year compared to 2015. No. 1/1 Long Beach State also has increased its home attendance average by more than 300 people since last year.
