What to know: It’s a regular season match so big it has its own name — the MIVAgeddon. Undefeated No. 1 Loyola will play host to No. 2 Lewis in the first meeting between two MIVA programs that are ranked atop the national coaches poll. Both the Ramblers and Flyers are in the nation’s top three with more than .340 attack percentage and have the longest winning streaks in the nation. Loyola is on a nation-best 40-match winning streak dating back to last season, including beating Lewis in the 2014 MIVA Tournament championship match. In addition, Lewis is on a 12-match winning streak and undefeated in conference play to be tied with Loyola for first place in the MIVA. This match will also feature five players in the nation’s top 40 for kills per game average. Loyola All-American outside attacker Thomas Jaeschke leads the MIVA with a 3.81 kills per game average and has more than a .400 attack percentage in seven of the last nine matches. In addition, All-American opposite Geoff Powell leads Lewis and is among the nation’s leaders with a 3.38 kills per game average. Loyola and Lewis are the first MIVA teams to be national ranked No. 1 and No. 2 at the same time in the more than 50-year history of the MIVA. It is also the first regular season match between No. 1 and No. 2 in college men’s volleyball since BYU defeated UC Irvine in 2013.
