The U.S. roster is set for the tournament that will determine if the country qualifies for the 2015 FIVB Men’s Junior World Championship.
USA Volleyball announced its 12-player roster that includes two Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Freshman All-American Team selections for the upcoming NORCECA Men’s U-21 Continental Championship.
Ohio State setter Christy Blough and USC middle attacker Andy Benesh, who both earned Freshman All-American honors last season, highlights the five current college men’s volleyball players selected to the team. In addition, seven incoming freshmen recruits round-out the U.S. roster.
Stanford led all schools with three players selected to the U.S. roster.
Eight schools had at least one player selected to the team. BYU and the defending NCAA champions Loyola both had two players, while Ohio State, Pepperdine, Lewis, Hawi’i and USC each had one player make the team.
The final roster was selected from the 21-player initial roster following the United States’ training session that ended earlier this week in Lake Placid, New York.
The United States will open the NORCECA tournament with a pool play match against Nicaragua on Tuesday in El Salvador.
The top three teams from the tournament will also receive automatic bids to the 2015 FIVB Men’s Junior World Championship.
The United States enters as the defending champions after going undefeated to win the NORCECA gold medal in 2012 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
