What to know: Erskine and Mount Olive are not only playing for a conference title but for the right to become the first school from the Conference Carolinas to earn a berth to the NCAA Tournament. After spending four seasons as an emerging conference, this is the first season the Conference Carolinas has qualified for an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. Erskine in its program’s second year of existence won the Conference Carolinas regular season championship and beat Barton in the semifinals on Saturday. All-conference outside attacker Michael Michelau leads the conference with a 4.17 kills per game average, including having a match-high 18 kills against Barton. In addition, Erskine outside attacker Roberto Perez Vargas also was in the conference’s top five for kills per game average and was selected to the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Freshmen All-American Team earlier this week. Mount Olive reached the championship match after upsetting the No. 2 seed Pfeiffer in four games on Saturday. Outside attacker Angel Dache, the 2014 Conference Carolinas Player of the Year, had a match-high 23 kills in that semifinals victory. Dache also has a team-high 36 combined kills in the two regular season matches against Erskine.
