Off the Block and Springbak, Inc. will introduce a new national award for the upcoming season recognizing the best freshmen in college men’s volleyball.
The national-award winning website announced Tuesday morning that at the end of the 2014 regular season it will release the inaugural Off the Block/Springback, Inc. Freshmen All-American Team to honor the top NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball freshmen players.
Unlike other popular NCAA sports, college men’s volleyball in recent seasons has not selected an annual Freshmen All-American Team. This will be the first Freshmen All-American selected in college men’s volleyball since the 1990s.
The Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Freshmen All-American Team will be selected by a nationwide voting committee comprised of coaches and media members, similar other annual awards presented by Off the Block.
Along with the Freshmen All-American Team, the 2014 season will feature a new weekly award with the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Freshman of the Week.
The National Freshman of the Week will be presented to the NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball freshman who had the most outstanding performance during the week. In addition, the winner will be announced every Monday during the regular season on Off the Block’s website, offtheblockblog.com.
The four NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball conferences each week will have an opportunity to nominate a freshman for the new weekly award. Fans throughout the season also can nominate a player for the National Freshman of the Week by tweeting their nominee to the Twitter account of Off the Block, @offtheblock11.
The Freshmen All-American Team and National Freshman of the Week are the newest awards introduced by Off the Block for the upcoming season. Off the Block annually presents several other college men’s volleyball awards ranging from Preseason All-American Teams to the National Blocker of the Year.
Off the Block is a website that started in January 2011 and has become among the national leaders in college men’s volleyball coverage.
