Conference Carolinas announces 2013 All-Conference awards

The regular season champions Mount Olive earned the most all-conference selections, but Pfeiffer won the biggest Conference Carolinas individual award.

The league announced Friday afternoon that Pfeiffer outside attacker Caleb Brophy earned the 2013 Conference Carolinas Player of the Year.

Brophy led the nine-team conference and was in the nation’s top 10 averaging 4.02 kills per game. The senior also had three matches with at least 20 kills and helped lead the Falcons to a second-place finish and a bye into conference tournament semifinals.

Along with Player of the Year honors, Brophy was named a First-Team All-Conference selection — one of four Pfeiffer players to make an all-conference team.

Mount Olive led all schools with six all-conference selections, including outside attackers Angel Dache and Adam Mircale making the first-team. In addition, first-year Mount Olive head coach David Heller was named the Conference Coach of the Year after guiding the Trojans to a 15-1 conference record.

Erskine in its inaugural season also won a pair of the conference’s top individual honors. Libero Michael Schneck was named Defensive Player of the Year and outside attacker Mike Kawa earned Freshman of the Year.
